Saag
Name: Saag
Saag is a South Asian dish made from cooked leafy greens, most commonly spinach, mustard leaves or a mixture of the two. The greens are cooked with onions, garlic, ginger and spices to create a thick, savoury curry, usually served with naan, chapatis or rice.
Popular variations include saag aloo, made with potatoes, and saag paneer, which includes cubes of paneer cheese. You may also see the word “saagwala” on restaurant menus, meaning a dish cooked with saag, often with chicken or lamb.
Note: It’s not really an ingredient as such but we’ve included it here to help.
