After a couple of failed attempts due firstly to snow and then to flooding, we finally made it to Prashad to try their tasting menu last weekend. And it was fantastic, well worth the effort.
It’s not one of the tasting menus where you end up needing a burger on the way home either. We were advised to skip the poppadoms if we were having the tasting menu. And they were spot on, I was stuffed by the end and Mrs CC was asking for a helping hand to finish hers.
It’s not the cheapest meal at £68/head but for the quality of food and service, we thought it was a fair price. What do you get? The current menu is:
7 COURSE MENU
Sanku – Garam Masala infused chestnut & sprout cones
Lasan Paneer Tikka – Grilled paneer infused with garam masala and fenugreek
Shabzi Kebab – Lentil & broccoli mini kebab
Chowpatti – Crisp rice, tamarind
Masala Dosa – Lentil & rice flour crepe with a spiced potato & onion curry, served with lentil broth and coconut chutney
Kofta – Spiced paneer and spinach dough balls served in a caraway infused tomato raso.
Potli – Almond & cranberry
The first four dishes are starters, the second two mains and the last one a dessert. My favourites were the Sanku cone and Lasan Paneer Tikka from the starters and the Kofta from the main. Their rice is also sensational and I aspire to being able to ever cook mine that well.
The only dish I wasn’t madly keen on was the Chowpatti. This was nice for the first half, but it’s very sweet which eventually I found too much by the time I had eaten it all.
You have to order the taster menu for everyone at the table, largely I imagine to make the excellent service possible. Compliments to the staff there, they were all excellent and helped make our whole visit very enjoyable.
Just to confirm – this was a private visit, I have no connection to Prashad and they did not pay for my review and probably have no idea I even exist.
